The St. Charles Parish Youth Empowerment Rally is slated for 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center, 274 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway in Luling. The public is invited.
Joan Diaz of the St. Charles Parish Department of Community Services; Ivy Williams of the Alpha Daughters of Zion organization, a United Way agency; and Roanne Sampson of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office have combined efforts to empower St. Charles Parish youth between the ages of 8 and 18 with a "Kickoff to Success" empowerment rally. The theme is "aspire, acquire and achieve."
Core topics are bullying, cyberbullying, social media, social trends and issues, conflict resolution and education. Motivational speakers, counselors, tutors and mentors will provide valuable information and resources. There will be free food, drinks, cotton candy, giveaways, music and much more. Additionally, free back-to-school haircuts for youth will be offered by Paul Mitchell Salon. Walgreens will be available for school immunization shots and health awareness.
Participating agencies consist of, but are not limited to, the Alpha Daughters of Zion, the St. Charles Parish Department of Community Services, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles Parish Public Schools, the St. Charles Parish Parks and Recreation Department, the 29th Judicial District Court, St. Charles Parish District Attorney’s Office, Creative Family Solutions, St. Charles Parish Library and Child Advocacy Services.
